Tuesday afternoon Governor Nikki Haley answered the call to action and released information regarding the Department pf Social Services Corrective Action Plan.

Under the new initiative, the Governor says it has become increasing clear that Richland County specifically needs more help handling their case load.

To change that, the Governor says she plans to increase staff, adding 20 more workers to help with incoming cases. And will hire even more people over the next five months. Including a full time liaison who will work directly with Richland Countuy Sheriff's Department.

The Governor also plans to move two staffers who will have the sole responsibility of getting law enforcement involved during critical life, health and safety.

With Child welfare being a full time job that requires more hands on time, the Governor says she will also implement a second shift. This will give DSS staff more flexibility and accountability.
