Mixed signal from groundhogs

By News Department

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Six more weeks of this cold air may have been a hard thing to swallow here in the Midlands, but if Punxsutawney Phil had his way, winter may be a thing of the past as the furry creature did not see his shadow Saturday morning.

The annual tradition held on Groundhog Day states that if the groundhog did not see his shadow, spring is coming soon. If the rodent did see his shadow, the tale says there will be six more weeks of winter.

There are a couple of southern groundhogs that may have a different opinion. With sunny skies in both Georgia and North Carolina, General Beauregard Lee and Sir Walter Wally both made a prediction that there will be six more weeks of Winter.

As a rule I lean South but on this occasion I'm leaning North.....ready for green grasses, warm days, cool nights and flowers galore.
