(WOLO) IRMO, S.C. -- It's out with the old and in with the new. Irmo residents said goodbye to their 16 gallon blue bins, some were filling faster then they could keep up with.

Several residents who received new green 65 gallon carts, say they like the idea and believe it will help them do more to take care of the environment.

That's exactly the goal of town officials who partnered with Advance Disposal who delivered more than 4 thousand bins last week. The company says they have tested the program out in Florida and saw a increases there. Here at home, they're hoping to encourage 20 percent more people to take advantage of an easier way to go green.

Advance Disposal isn't only focused on keeping the environment clean by avoiding unwanted trash in our landfills. Officials say they're using bigger trucks, and limiting trips to once every other week to limit the fuel footprint left in the environment as well.
