CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ A man will spend the rest of his life in prison after he was convicted of killing a woman he was taking to illegally buy prescription drugs.

A jury found 35-year-old Darold Drayton guilty of murder Friday and he was immediately sentenced.

Prosecutors say Drayton killed 27-year-old Alexis Lukaitis in August 2010 as they returned to Bluffton from Charleston.

Authorities say Lukaitis' body was found on the side of a Charleston County dirt road, her throat cut three times. Prosecutors say Drayton was found with scratches and cuts when he was arrested a few days later.

Drayton's cousin testified he found a spare tire, diaper bag, emergency kit and other items with blood on them at his home about the same time Lukaitis ` body was found.
