Police Say Bluffton Woman's Death is a Homicide

By Alicia Barnes

BLUFFTON, S.C. (AP) _ The Beaufort County coroner's office says the death of a Bluffton woman was a homicide.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported the body of 70-year-old Polly Ann Mitchell was found in her home Monday afternoon.

The coroner's office and Bluffton police said an autopsy has been completed but they would not release the cause of death or say when she was killed.

Deputy Coroner David Ott said the case is very sensitive now.

Capt. Joseph Manning said no suspects have been identified. But Manning did say there was a struggle in the home.

Manning did say investigators are working with Charleston County sheriff's deputies, who are investigating the case of a missing woman in Hollywood, south of Charleston. The 77-year-old woman's car was found Monday afternoon in Ridgeland.
