SC Agency Plan to Spend $5 million Update Yorktown
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) _ Officials at Patriots Point are proposing spending up to $5 million to make the 20th Century aircraft carrier USS Yorktown a floating museum that will better attract 21st Century visitors
The plan unveiled Friday proposes interactive exhibits with holograms, sound effects and computers and a new multi-purpose theater. Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette says the traditional Yorktown visitors _ World War II and Vietnam vets _ are getting older and it's crucial the Charleston Harbor attraction lure younger visitors. Burdette says young people want an immersive experience allowing them to see and hear what might have happened on the World War II era carrier. He says he wants people to come to the Charleston area to see the Yorktown, not just stop by while they are already in town. |

It has been a lot of years since I have visited the Yorktown. That time, the NSS Savannah was docked ahead of the bow of the Yorktown. I sincerely hope this ship can be overhauled to new standards. It is definitely worth a visit.
