SC Parks on Track to Self-Sufficiency
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO/AP) -- Coming off a record year which brought in $21 million in revenue, South Carolina's state parks are on track to being able to pay their own way.
Parks Recreation and Tourism Director Duane Parrish says the goal now is to have the state's 47 parks self-sustaining in just over 18 months, by July 1, 2014. Parish said parks have made their rates more competitive, and are staging events like last July 4th fireworks at Charles Towne Landing in Charleston that are bringing in more visitors. Officials say only state park systems in New Hampshire and Vermont are currently self-supporting. |
