SC Prosecutor, Sheriffs Raise Trauma Awareness

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's top prosecutor is joining a variety of law enforcement and community officials to raise awareness about sexual trauma.

Attorney General Alan Wilson is serving as marshal of the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on Thursday in Columbia.

Wilson and other area notables, including Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott and University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides, are planning to don women's shoes and walk for one mile. Others, including Lexington County Sheriff James Metts and Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott, are also planning to participate.

The event is sponsored by Palmetto Health and hosted by Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands. Its intent is to get men involved in the fight against sexual violence.
