CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ A South Carolina man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2010 death of his 14-year-old nephew.

Donsurvi Chisholm of Goose Creek received the sentence on Tuesday. Chisholm had been charged with murder and entered an Alford plea, meaning that he knew prosecutors could likely convict him based on the evidence.

U.S. Marshals arrested Chisholm in Los Angeles in April 2010, two weeks after Michael Chisholm was killed and his father was wounded.

Authorities say Donsurvi Chisholm was out of jail on bail while awaiting trial in a 2007 shooting death of a man in Dorchester County. Authorities say the electronic bracelet Chisholm was supposed to be wearing either was removed or wasn't working.

Chisholm was convicted of that murder last year and sentenced to life.
