COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- The Fifth Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Worthless Check Program is a free service to any merchant, business or individual who has received a worthless check.

Solicitor Dan Johnson, representing Richland and Kershaw counties, says his 'Worthless Check Unit' will begin handing out information to businesses about the free service. He says the program recovers $60-$80,000 in lost revenue for businesses victimized by bad check writers. As a part of the program, authorities will run down people who write bad checks so business owners don't have to, saving them time, productivity and money.

The unit will be out in the community from November 14, 2011, to January 15, 2012. Officials hope the word will be out by then that writing a bad check is a crime that will cost you. For more information on the WCP, you can call 803-576-1860.
