Troopers report deadly accident along I-26

By News Department

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol is responding to a deadly accident along Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County.

It reported around 3am Thursday in the eastbound lanes near the 164 mile marker.

Troopers say a 2001 freightliner lost control, hit an embankment and struck several trees.

There are reports of at least two fatalities. Troopers say a third person was taken to the hospital. No word on their condition.

As of 7am Thursday morning, crews were still at the scene, and it's not know how much longer they will be out there.

The crash is causing delays in that area, so troopers are asking drivers to be careful.
