COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Governor Nikki Haley is explaining in more detail how you can enroll in a free credit protection plan in the midst of a statewide international hacking incident. Nearly 3.6 million social security numbers and 387,000 credit and debit card numbers were exposed in a cyber attack.

Concerned citizens may enroll by calling 1-866-578-5422 or going to www.protectmyid.com/scdor. the access code upon logging on is 'SCDOR123.' The protection lasts for one year and is free to anyone who has filed taxes in this state since 1998. Signing up will provide real time monitoring of your credit and inform you of any suspicious activity on your account. Of the estimated 3.6 million people affected, the governor says 450,000 people have called in; however,154,000 sign-ups have taken place. The approximate wait time upon calling the 800 number is twelve minutes.
