World Autism Awareness Day
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO0 -- In just three days Ronny Doiron will turn six years old. But, no matter how old he gets his Mom, Wendy Doiron, says he will likely always be Autistic.
"He may never grow out of this," says Wendy Doiron
We first introduced you to Ronny and his family last fall. Then doctors had diagnosed him with PDDNOS (Pervasive Developmental Delay Not Otherwise Specified), putting him just in the spectrum of Autism.
"He doesn't understand there is a such thing as Autism, he doesn't understand he is Autistic," says Doiron.
Since our last visit, that's the very news Ronny and his family received.
"They changed his diagnosis to Autism," says Doiron.
Wendy Doiron says the new diagnosis doesn't exactly mean Ronny is doing worse.
"It just means that more of his Autism has come to the surface, more of his quirks and his, you know, the little things that he does have started showing themselves a little more," says Doiron
Our visit to the Doiron family home came on World Autism Awareness Day.
"For me personally, it just means that it's another day that I just reflect back on what we've been going through and take another step into acceptance of it," says Doiron.
Today, there is no known cause or cure for Autism, meaning those like the Doiron family will always be affected by the disorder.
But still, with a smile on his face, Ronny continues to be full of life and his family continues to believe in his future.
"I think for Ronnie's future, we just hope that he continues to be happy and healthy and wherever he can make progress, that he do it," says Doiron.
On April 19, 2013 the Doiron family and "The Ronny Train," team will host Blue: A Night Supporting Autism. The event, which will feature blue decorations, blue cocktails and blue sushi, will take place at SakiTumi Sushi Bar and Grill in the Vista.
