Former British PM Margaret Thatcher Dies at 87

By News Department

LONDON (CNN) - Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has died at the age of 87.

She passed away Monday following a stroke, according to British media.

Thatcher was Britain's first and only female prime minister... and the only British PM of the 20th century to win three consecutive terms.

She served from 1979 to 1990 as leader of the Conservative Party.

Thatcher was called the "Iron Lady" for her personal and political toughness.

She retired from public life after a stroke in 2002 and suffered several strokes after that.
