Eichelberger Murder Focus of National Program

Family of late reverend reflects on re-living tragedy for TV program

By Monique Williams

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- When a minister is attacked in his home, his family wonders who could take from someone who gives freely. But when the minister dies from his injuries, investigators know that while forgiveness may be divine, justice must be served.

More than three years after a home invasion and subsequent death of a Midlands minister, his daughter tells ABC Columbia News her father's story lives on via the show 'Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets.' She says the episode is a necessary tale of murder, justice, and ultimately, forgiveness.

Investigation Discovery Network's 'Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets' re-enacted the incidents of May 5, 2009. Frankie McGee of Kershaw is serving a life sentence plus 30 years in prison for breaking into the late Rev. Tryon Eichelberger's house on Issac Street in Columbia that day. He beat the man with a lead pipe and robbed him. The 87-year-old pastor died from his injuries two months later. Daughter, Mary Eichelberger Johnson, says aside from the lights, camera and action, the program serves a greater purpose of teaching others about the power of forgiveness.

'Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets' airs tonight at 10:00 EST on the Investigation Discovery Network. It will re-air at 1:00 am EST tomorrow and then again on August 26, at 7:00 pm EST (Time Warner Channel 251/DirecTV Channel 285).

The episode is called 'Blind Faith.'
