Severe weather awareness week kicks off in SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina Emergency Management Division is kicking off severe weather awareness week in the state.

The goal of the week is to make people more aware about the dangers of all kinds of severe weather in South Carolina — from tornadoes to severe thunderstorms to floods.

The National Weather Service will highlight ways to keep people safe during severe weather.

The weather service will also hold a statewide tornado drill at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Officials will send out a real tornado warning that should active properly set weather radios. Schools are encouraged to practice their tornado safety drills too.
