COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- An explosive message on a Midlands church sign causes controversy over an already sensitive issue: abortion. This time, it's the supposed target audience of abortion that has one local pastor in hot water.

Pastor Patrick Dye of Macedonia Baptist Church in Columbia is getting a lot of attention regarding the topic on his church sign on the lawn outside.

It reads: 'Ultimate Racism - Abortionists Target Black Babies.'

Dye claims there is a planned attack on women of color by Planned Parenthood to have abortions. He cites statistics from widely known pro-life organizations to support his claim. They are numbers Planned Parenthood, the world's largest abortion provider, says are categorically false, as it relates to South Carolina.

Good for this Pastor. I just wish the african american church would speak out more about this issue which widely effects our community. As an african american women, I encourage people to do their research about margaret sanger the orginal creator of pp. As for its location... it is very much targetted. To say it is in the "heart of the city" is not correct. Yes, surrounded by other businesses but located in the back of those same businesses...not good enough for Forest acres.. thanks for the story.

The local Planned Parenthood is located in the heart of the city. It's available and close to women living Downtown, Shandon, Forest Acres, Harrison Road, several colleges and universities--not just the women in Gonzales Garden.

They left out quite a lot of what I said though.. Like.. The statistics are just numbers anyhow. The pastor is not talking to individuals to find out their reasons for abortion. It has nothing to do with race. Women chose abortion for many reasons - they can't handle it financially, mentally, emotionally, physically.. some deal with making the decision because of heat from family, friends & even their own church/religious pressures on them. Some are flat out unplanned and unwanted pregnancies. And as for the location of clinics.. They go to where they're needed. They also aren't going to just setup their chop-shop in a ritzy class neighborhood next door to The Cheesecake Factory. However, our local Planned Parenthood clinic here is NOT located in a "bad neighborhood". It's in a pretty good part of town & surrounded by other businesses and offices.
