Tanker Truck Fire Forces Road Block

By News Department

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) - Some Newberry County residents are allowed back in their homes Monday night after a tanker truck fire forced a brief evacuation.

SC Highway 39 in Chappells remains blocked until further notice as crews handle clean-up efforts.

Authorities say the truck contained ammonium nitrate that spilled. They believe the incident started because of a mechanical issue.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
