City Councilman Requests FBI Examine Allegations

By News Department

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) - We continue to follow a developing story in the Capital City.

Earlier this week, we told you the State Law Enforcement Division opened an investigation into the Columbia Police Department. That's after former Captain David Navarro claimed Interim Police Chief Ruben Santiago asked him to plant drugs and a gun in an assistant city manager's car.

Friday, a Columbia City Councilman released a written e-mail, requesting the FBI look into these allegations.

In it, Moe Baddourah said, "Out of an abundance of caution, I strongly propose that we take this course of action. Regardless of what becomes of the SLED investigation, the people of Columbia must be able to have the peace of mind that any investigation is thorough and objective..."

Baddourah went on to say, "...While it's not my intent to question the ability of SLED to investigate this matter, those questions have been raised, including some from our constituents...."

Baddourah says he's prepared to contact the FBI but believes it would make a bigger statement if the entire city council made the request.

As a Columbia resident I'm sick and tired of the corruption! Moe is a little late, as the FBI has been investigating CPD well over a year! Columbia needs new leadership! Larry Sypolt is running for mayor and guess what? He is an ex FBI agent! It's my opinion that is who we need leading our city. These corrupt leaders need to go! Lets get our city back in November!
