One Dead in Fire at Greenville Motel

By Alicia Barnes

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) _ Greenville County officials say one person has died after a fire at a motel.

The coroner's office was called to the Quality Inn and Suites in Greenville around 5:30 a.m. Monday. The victim's name has not been released.

Deputy Coroner Jeff Fowler said no other injuries were reported.

Deputies say some guests reported an explosion at the time of the fire, but investigators haven't figured out what that sound was. Authorities say the fire appeared to be contained to one room and there was no evidence of a methamphetamine lab inside.

Guests were evacuated to the lobby.
