Fort Jackson, SC (WOLO)- The save our fort initiative has exceeded its goal.
The effort was started by The Columbia Chamber to gain community support for Fort Jackson.
The United States Army projects it will reduce troop levels from 490-thousand to 450-thousand by the end of 2015.
Fort Jackson could see a reduction of 31-hundred positions, almost half the army's workforce.
Tonight, chamber members say they've gathered more than 12-thousand three hundred petition signatures.
