Son Charged in Murder of Parents
FAIRFIELD, SC (WOLO)-- The son of an elderly Fairfield County couple, found dead in their front yard, is awaiting a bond hearing Wednesday, after being charged with their murders.
40 year old Matthew Mahorsky is charged with two counts of Murder in the deaths of 71 and 70 year old Richard and Ruth Marion Mahorsky, say police.
According to authorities, Mahorsky shot his parents in the head Sunday evening, their bodies were discovered Monday morning.
"A deputy came out when he pulled into the driveway he saw a body, laying in the yard," says Deputy Chief Keith Lewis of the Fairfield County Sheriff's Department.
This is the second time, according to authorities, that Marhorsky has faced charges involving an altercation at the family home.
In 2004, an arrest record obtained by ABC Columbia News shows, Mahorsky was arrested for Pointing and Presenting a Firearm.
Lewis says that incident involved Mahorsky's father.
In March of 2005, Mahorsky was convicted and sentenced to one year in prison, suspended to 3 years probation, according to his arrest record.
But Sunday, police say Mahorsky did more than just point a gun, instead he's accused of doing, what is to many, the unthinkable.
"The victims were shot and it appears they were shot with a high-powered rifle," says Lewis.
Lewis tells us in a search of the family home, police found four weapons - two rifles and two shotguns. Deputies are awaiting results from SLED to determine if any of those weapons are the murder weapon.
Matthew Mahorsky is scheduled to face a judge at 5:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in Fairfield County.
