Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) -- South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) officials joined Governor Nikki Haley to announce the state's renewed initiative to increase organ donation.

It's called the 2014 Donor Designation Collaborative. Donate Life South Carolina and the DMV are partnering with a goal of having a donor designation rate of 40-percent by the end of this year. The donor designation rate is the rate at which individuals join the state's donor registry as a percentage of all I.D./driving credentials issued during the same time period at SCDMV offices.

"A thousand people in South Carolina right now are in need of a transplant. There is nothing better or more generous that we can do than to know that when our time comes, we have passed it on to someone else. That's what this means," said Gov. Haley.
