Flag Day Events Planned in SC Lowcountry

By Alicia Barnes

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) _ Several Flag Day events are being held in the Charleston area.

The Fort Sumter National Monument is hosting events Friday outside its visitor education center in downtown Charleston. Visitors will be able to learn about the heritage of the American and other flags. Other activities include designing flags, learning how to fold a flag and sending signal flag messages.

Across the harbor, the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is hosting an event with members of the Knights of Columbus and Boy Scouts.

During the free event on the flight deck of the USS Yorktown, the Knights of Columbus will raise the flag. With the help of the Scouts, the flag will later be folded while a history of the symbolism of each fold is shared.
