Troopers: Passenger Killed after Truck Strikes Tree

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) - A driver is injured and his passenger is killed after an accident in Sumter County.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the 2003 Dodge pickup truck they were in was traveling along US 76 Tuesday night when it went off the road and struck a tree.

Troopers say neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was extricated before being airlifted to a local hospital. His condition is not known at this time.

The accident remains under investigation.
