Elections, Cyber Security Top Issues of '13 Session
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- WOLO Tuesday marked the beginning of the 120th South Carolina General Assembly, as lawmakers and protestors clamored for their voices to be heard on a variety of issues from election reform to cyber security to economic development.
Lawmakers returned to the House and Senate Chambers with a list of items on the agenda.
Among the hot topics slated for debate, funding for cyber security in the wake of the Statewide hacking incident that left millions of taxpayers' personal information compromised. Also, lawmakers plan to debate over South Carolina's participation in the Federal Government's health care funding or so called "Obamacare" and tax cuts. A group of demonstrators converged on the State House steps prior to the start of the '13 Session calling an end to Obamacare.
Legislators say they also return with a renewed energy to repair broken ethics and election policies and procedures, declaring the Richland County Election Day debacle something 'we don't want to see happen again.'
