Dozens Turned Away from MLK Celebration

By Rochelle Dean

Hundreds took advantage of a day off from school and work to learn more about Dr. martin Luther King, Jr. and his life. Cars lining the street outside of the Martin Luther King Community Center while crowds packed the gymnasium leaving standing room only.

ABC Columbia Cameras were rolling as dozens were turned away because of overcrowding. According to on site officials, the capacity of the building is 6 hundred, but more than 750 people showed up to enjoy festivities leaving some unable to attend.

Those we spoke with outside of this year's Dreamkeepers event tell us while they were disappointed they were not able to use the day as a teaching moment with their children, it was good to see that so many others from the community came out to take part and learn more about how Martin Luther King, Jr. lived and why he died.
