Suspected Cold Case Killer in Custody...for Different Crime

By Monique Williams

Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) -- Wido April Randolph knows the man whom police believe killed her husband is in jail. However, the suspects is not in jail for murdering April's husband, and that's a problem.

"I'm asking them to come forward and tell what they know," said Randolph.

She and deceased husband, Raymond Randolph, would have celebrated 15 years of marriage this summer, she claims, if he had not been shot and left to die.

"It hurts that someone killed him, left him over night; they didn't find him until the next day, and for someone in the community not to say something is awful."

Richland county deputies say Randolph, then 35, was shot twice, and he was found dead beside a then-vacant house on \Everett Street off Hard Scrabble Road in Columbia. A passer-by discovered Randolph's body and called police.

Nine years later, there are more questions than answers.

Cold Case investigator with the Richland County Sheriff's Department, Gene Mincey, claims a little more evidence could lead to the suspect being charged with Randolph's murder. He believes the community holds the missing piece of the puzzle.

i know it's been a long time but you don't forget something like this," said Mincey. "We just believe there is someone out there who can give us more evidence so we can solve this case and bring closure to April and her family."

April agrees, "we really need help."
