COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- As temperatures continue to drop, the cold snap can wreak havoc on your vehicle. Local mechanics have a list of things you should know when properly caring for your car during colder months.

Mechanics at Capital Care Car in Columbia say proper maintenance on your car, especially during the winter months, can double the life of it. Three main things they say you need to pay close attention to include your anti-freeze level, tire pressure, batteries, belts and hoses.

Another tip is they advise to never use hot water on an icy windshield. They say that can lead to the glass shattering; use cold water to melt the ice instead.
