SC Mom Gets 20 years in Crash that Killed Daughter
GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) _ A 28-year-old mother has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following a crash that killed her 8-year-old daughter.
Prosecutors said Samantha Rhinehart pleaded guilty Thursday to reckless homicide.
Investigators say Rhinehart was driving 62 mph in a 45 mph zone on Jan. 11 when she lost control of her pickup and it ran down an embankment and crashed into a tree.
Authorities say there were seven passengers in the truck and Anna Rhinehart was sitting in someone's lap in the front seat. She died from head injuries.
Samantha Rhinehart was originally charged with felony driving under the influence with a death. But prosecutors say those charges were changed when lab tests determined there was methamphetamine in her urine, but not her blood, indicating the drug didn't impair her driving.
