Seattle Man Gets Life in Woman's Killing in SC

By Alicia Barnes

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) _ A Seattle man who stabbed his girlfriend to death while visiting his mother in South Carolina has been sentenced to life in prison.

An Anderson County jury found 34-year-old Mauricio Weber guilty Tuesday of murder.

Prosecutors say Weber started stabbing 20-year-old Patrice Jones in 2010 because she disrespected him. Weber's mother ran screaming to a nearby apartment for help. An autopsy found Jones was stabbed 14 times with the blows so hard that a bone was broken in her spine.

Weber acted as his own attorney and called no witnesses. His trial was delayed for years because he fired at least four of his defense attorneys.

Weber told the judge after the guilty verdict that he still maintains his innocence in the killing.
