Columbia one Step Closer to Playing Ball

By Rochelle Dean

City Council and members of the community playing hard ball as they hashed out details for the financing options and draft agreement for the multipurpose venue.

While some said they were excited about the new park and eager for the city to begin building the entertainment venue, others were concerned about how to pay for the space that is not to exceed 35 million dollars.

Mayor Steve Benjamin says the money to pay for the new location will come from hospitality taxes and promised it would not come from raising taxes, or reducing any current funding to city projects.

But some took aim at the fact that the city is rushing work on a deal to spend 35 million they say could be spent on other more immediate needs in the city.

The measure ultimately passed 4 to 3.
