Mobile App Seeks to Attract Hollywood, Film Buffs
Columbia, S.C, (WOLO) -- The South Carolina Film Commission unveils a new mobile filmography app to attract movie executives and also the average movie buff.
More than 100 feature films and 70+ TV movies, series, and pilots have been produced in South Carolina. Now, a new smart phone app lists all those projects shot in the Palmetto State during the past 100 years, with the hope of adding more box office hits to the state's resume.
"The iconic scene [in Forrest Gump] was shot on a bench in Savannah in five days, but the majority was shot in South Carolina," said Tom Clark with the SC Film Commission. "Who knew?"
The new technology is called Film SC, and while it was created primarily with movie industry insiders in mind, it also welcomes the average film buff.
Released by the South Carolina Film Commission this week, Film SC, provides incentives for filmmakers to find the perfect place to make films, television shows and commercials anywhere in the state.
Clark says the new technology provides an opportunity for the state to make more money than it already does each time a movie set, sets up shop, taking the state's tourism and economic impact to new levels.
"It takes about 145 people to make a feature film. Then, factor in thousands of extras. It's an amazing amount of money spend in South Carolina when movie companies come here," said Clark.
The free Film SC app is available now for Apple tablets and iphones and will be available in the coming months for the Android.
