It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. But in this case USC is trying to use those incidents to gather data to make each play as safe as it is fun.

The grid iron game is physical and built on endurance, but it can also be a sport that can easily sideline the toughest according to USC Athletic trainer.

" we see concussions, we see fractures, we see heat illness the whole gamut and it's only pre-season."

Before the season heats up USC is hoping to educate parents and coaches about the dangers these little ones could face on the field.

Something former Gamecock Marcus Lattimore's father - Vernon Smith says they learned the hard way.

" when Marcus was injured me and my wife were opened up to a completely different side of sports we had no idea about.
they were so good to Marcus, he wanted to do something to give back."

And they're doing just that - using their organization D.R.E.A.M.S and teaming up with USC Athletic Department to stiff arm possible injuries before they tackle a child's fun.

Many of kids wearing these x-2 patches or excelometers behind their right ears to record data from each practice and game to make sure they're not only playing the game to win - but at the end of it to also be able to walk away unharmed.
