Fort Jackson, USC set to discuss collaboration

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) — Officials from the Army's largest training installation in Fort Jackson and the University of South Carolina are spending a day discussing possible collaboration.

Army spokesman Pat Jones says Friday's event includes talks on training and education, health matters, environmental issues and community relations. Potential issues include classroom technology, online education, degree programs, and service learning opportunities for students.

Jones says the goal of the event is to draft a memorandum of understanding between the training center and the university. Each year, about 60,000 soldiers are trained at the military installation located near Columbia.
