COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- It was fun and sun for the kids of Camp Kemo Thursday at Lake Murray.

"They have the opporunity to do things they wouldn't normally be able to do during the year," says Ross Sawyer, Camp Counselor.

Ross Sawyer has been a counselor at the camp for five years, for hime it's personal.

"I lost a cousin to cancer in 2005," says Sawyer.

"He loved camp, that's how we all got into it, it was his favorite thing," says Sawyer.

It's also a favorite for 11 year old, Reggie Parkman.

"Before I had my leg amputated, I always had leg pains," says Parkman.

Reggie as Osteosarcoma, but he still has a smile.

"If I wouldn't have got my leg taken off, I could've died. I would rather have my life than have the leg," says Parkman.

He isn't alone at camp, at just 6 years old, Jamiah Holloway also has cancer.

"My kidney took out," says Holloway.

For her, being sick is the hardest part.

"Staying in the hospital a long time," says Holloway.

6 year old, Timothy Allen also has to spend time there.

"When you get sick you have to go to the hospital and get your check up," says Allen.

For all these kids, Ross Sawyer says this camp means hope.

"It gives them a chance to see kids who have survived it and beat it," says Sawyer.

And for many attending camp, time to just be a kid.

"It kind of gives them a chance to be normal again and not to have to worry about you know being outside the circle or being the kid who has cancer, they don't have to worry about that here," says Sawyer.
