Housekeeper Pleads Guilty to Stealing from Couple
ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) _ The woman who found a Greenville couple stabbed to death has admitted to stealing from them before they were killed.
U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says 52-year-old Shirley Ann Rogers pleaded guilty Tuesday to fraudulent use of a debit card. She faces a possible 17 years in prison. Authorities say 78-year-old Gary Wells and 77-year-old Helen Wells were stabbed to death in October. Rogers worked as a housekeeper for them and was accused of using Helen Wells' debit card without permission weeks before the killings. A man who knew Rogers has been charged with murder, first-degree burglary and kidnapping. Authorities haven't said how Rogers knew Jonathan Donell Rhodes, who was released on probation in March 2012 after serving part of a 5-year sentence for strong-arm robbery. |
