COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- "She has actually been more stronger than I have at times to say, "Mommy look, I'm going to be okay," says Kaywanna Davis, victim's mother.

November 2011, that's when Kaywanna Davis says her daughter Grace's life changed.

"I can remember it like it was yesterday," says Davis

According to Davis, Grace and her brother Khristian were at a friend's house playing when Grace was shot with a bb gun.

"He deliberately shot, aimed at a target, her eye," says Davis

Grace, just six years old at the time, describes that day.

"It was just scary," says Kerria-Grace Butler, victim.

"She was hiding saying please don't shoot me," says Davis.

The experience has Grace's family emotional.

"It's hard to watch her be in pain," says Kerry Butler, victim's Dad.

"I wish me and her could trade bodies," says Khristian Davis, victim's brother.

Today, Grace has to wear a special contact lens.

"She's only able to see colors and shapes," says Kaywana Davis.

She has three different eye drops she uses daily, one four times everyday.

She also has special tools to put the contact lens in and to take it out, along with protective glasses.

Grace has since been named the victim in a case by the Richland County Solicitor's Office the accused, also a juvenile now 11 years old, has been charged with Assault and Battery of the 2nd degree.

ABC Columbia, by law, cannot identify the child.

According to the solicitor's office, the case is currently pending.

But Grace is moving on, enjoying being 8 years old.

"It's really amazing to grow up and have fun," says Grace

But her mother hopes Grace's story shines a light.

"Parents have to be responsible, do not give your child toys that are dangerous," says Davis.
