Parker's Girlfriend Testifies
Girlfriend says Parker is innocent
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Prior to a judge denying three separate motions to dismiss the Brett Parker double murder trial, defense attorneys begin calling their witnesses.
The most suprising witness for much of the day was Wendy Combs-Kisner, Brett Parker's current girlfriend. Combs-Kiser testified to when the two first met and that they were friends initially before it turned into more. She stated based on what she knows about Parker, he is innocent. Upon cross examination, the State produced evidence that Combs-Kiser was once arrested.
Early morning testimony
Prior to defense attorneys calling their first witness in the trial, attorney Mark Whitlark attempted three separate times to ask the judge for dismissal and/or a not-guilty verdict. Whitlark claims the State has failed to prove, by way of physical evidence, that Brett Parker murdered wife Tammy Jo Parker and business associate Bryan Capnerhurst. The State pointed to prior expert witness testimony and prior pre-trial evidence as reasons the case should continue.
Judge DeAndrea Benjamin ruled that, based on the evidence that has been presented, it is all relevant and the decision on this case should be left up to the jury.
The Defense has a list of at least eight witnesses it may call, including Jack and Linda Parker, parents of Brett Parker, a criminal expert witness and Brett Parker himself.
