Percy Mack Retires

By Rochelle Dean

From a teacher in the classroom, to building administrator, then principle , and ultimately superintendent of Richland county schools district one, Dr. Percy Mack has dedicated his life to education.
more than four decades later Dr. Mack is retiring but says he'll never stop working for the betterment of area youth.

" i've always enjoyed my work with children and students. they have kept me going."

It's that motivation from those around him and overwhelming support from the school board that's helped the county move from the risk category to the highest achievement rates in the past 7 years.
It's also spurred the development of a diesel training program, health and science magnet school, and a middle Montessori school set to open this fall.

School board chairman Aaron Bishop says the announcement caught everyone off guard, but they respect his decision to retire after 42 years in the field of education.
His last day will be June 30th.
