Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)-- A medical service call at Dreher High School took a turn Thursday morning after police say a student's parent assaulted the School Resource Officer.

According to Richland School District One, the medical call was for a 17 year old, female student. Though, we do not know what the nature of the medical need was.

Police say the SRO was responding to the call when David Bass walked in, acting inappropriately and assaulted the officer.

District officials did not name Bass, but did confirm the adult involved was a parent of a student at the school.

Bass was arrested and charged with 3rd degree Assault and Battery.

We're told the officer involved is okay.

District officials say the entire incident took place in the front office of the school and no other parts of the school were disrupted by the incident.

They called a parent to the school because of a medical emergency involving their child, and they try to keep him from her? I'd be busting heads as well, badge or not. He had every right to be with his daughter.
