Sen Rand Paul Makes Stop in Midlands

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) - It's heating up here in the Midlands as a potential presidential candidate lights a fire on the political grill.

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul headlined a summer barbecue in West Columbia at the South Carolina State Farmer's Market.

It was hosted Friday evening by the South Carolina GOP.

The 50-year-old freshman Republican is a favored name for the 20-16 election.

Senator Paul says he was hoping to show people in the early presidential primary state of South Carolina that he can appeal to a broad audience.

He had this to say about the recent leak of NSA surveillance programs.

"Privacy should be defended. I think the 4th Amendment does and should protect our privacy. I think we've gone and drifted away from the 4th Amendment protecting our records, and I think those cases need to be revisited. And the Supreme Court need to look at this again."

Meanwhile, a potential presidential candidate for Democrats...our country's former Secretary of State.

Now, Hillary Clinton has not said whether or not she will get in the race, but House Minority Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she wants Clinton to run in 2016.
