Andrea brings rain, wind gusts to South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Tropical Storm Andrea is speeding through South Carolina, bringing rain and wind gusts but causing little damage.

During the morning rush hour in Charleston there was little evidence the center of the storm was passing to the northwest beyond a few downed tree branches, gusty winds and some puddles in the street. The sun occasionally peeked through.

Derrec Becker with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division says the storm was moving to the northeast at nearly 30 mph. Across the state, he says, Andrea has brought nothing more than a severe thunderstorm.

No injuries have been reported and there have been no reports of significant damage. Becker says some trees have been blown over.

South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. reports about 4,000 people without power in Charleston County.
