NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) - The next time your phone rings, beware of who is on the other end. They could be after your money.

The Newberry County Sheriff's Office says scam artists with thick accents have been calling, saying they are with the federal government in Washington DC.

Then they ask for the victim's personal information in order to receive a tax refund.

Authorities say don't give that out and hang up.
