Columbia Passes Ball Park Agreement

By Rochelle Dean

(WOLO) COLUMBIA,S.C., --City of Columbia passes Baseball Stadium vote.

For three hours Tuesday a packed city council chambers with standing room only gave residents one last chance to tell council why they were for or against a baseball stadium in the capitol city.

Council members Leona Plaugh, Moe Baddourah and Tameika Issac - Devine vote against the venue license agreement citing it was a "hasty" move that needed more time and discussion.

Still, remaining members who voted in favor of the measure pushed the measure through passing it 4 to 3 in favor of the agreement which now means Columbia is committed to playing ball.

The signing of this license agreement will allow developers to begin working on the design of the venue and doing environmental studies of concerns like lights, noise, traffic and parking.

Now that the wheels are in motion, Columbia could have a team and a venue for them to play at as soon as 2015.
