Evidence Scrutinized in Parker Trial

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- Some of the most compelling testimony in the Brett Parker double murder trial today came from Richland County coroner Gary Watts. Watts testified what Brett Parker, who is on trial, accused of killing wife Tammy Jo Parker and friend Brian Capnerhurst, told him the day of the murders.

It is the most detailed account of what happened at the Parker home last April, based on evidence presented, since the trial began last week.

"He said 'I killed my best friend Brian.' Brett's father came up and said 'Tammy's dead.' Brett's mother also came up and said 'Did Brett kill Tammy?'" Watts testified.

The defense, however, maintains Brett Parker killed Brian Capnerhurst in self defense, only after Capnerhurst shot and killed Tammy Jo Parker, as lawyers tried to establish during cross examination of one of the criminal experts.

"You're comfortable with the consistencies of the results you found on Brian Capnerhurst, with him firing a handgun?" asked defense attorney Mark Whitlark. "Yes, either firing it or being on the receiving end of it," answered special agent with SLED, John Roberts.

In addition to evidence presented today, you may remember we told you yesterday previous evidence is being transported to Texas. Defense attorneys pushed to have their own forensics expert examine that evidence at his lab, which is located in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Testimony resumes Wednesday morning.
