SC Inmate Captured After Mistaken Release

GEORGETOWN, S.C. (AP) _ Authorities have captured a 19-year-old attempted murder suspect who was mistakenly released from a state prison in Columbia before he had served his whole sentence.

Corrections Department spokesman Clark Newsom says Dwaine Johnson Jr. was arrested Tuesday night in the Georgetown area.

Johnson was serving a six-month sentence for throwing bodily fluids on a detention officer when he was mistakenly released last week from the Kirkland Reception and Evaluation Center.

Newsom says Johnson was supposed to be in state prison until October, and then he was to be released to Georgetown County officials because he had a warrant out against him for attempted murder from 2011.

Newsom says prison officials are investigating what led to Johnson's release.
