South Carolina's NAACP President Arrested
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) - The president of the South Carolina NAACP finds himself in handcuffs and in the back of a police cruiser.
Columbia Police say Lonnie Randolph Jr. was taken into custody last Friday for trespassing, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
An employee at Tripps Cleaners off Harden Street claimed Randolph refused to pay his bill and leave the store.
When officers responded, they notified him not to come back to the business or he would be arrested.
They say Randolph caused a scene and began jerking away from officers.
A police report indicates one of the officers struck him twice in the knees and once in the chest, trying to get him into the cruiser.
Randolph was taken to a local hospital...but refused treatment.
City Manager Teresa Wilson was notified and responded to the scene.
Randolph was booked and then released by Interim Police Chief Ruben Santiago.
