Truck Drives on to Florence Playground

By Alicia Barnes

FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) -- Police are looking for a man who drove his pickup truck onto an elementary school playground in Florence and circled it as students played before driving away.

Authorities say no one was injured in the incident around 1 p.m. Thursday, and they think the driver may have been confused. But police say he should have stopped instead of driving away.

School officials say teachers and other employees got the 175 children on the playground at Delmae Elementary School inside safely.

Someone on the playground got the tag number of the truck, but police haven't been able to locate the driver.
