Midlands Twins Red Carpet Bound
Twins will cover coveted Oscars from Hollywood
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) -- A chance meeting with a complete stranger for some Midlands twins leads to a once in a lifetime opportunity, making them Oscar bound.
"We're happy, elated to be given this opportunity to represent South Carolina."
When twins, administrators at Midlands Technical Institute, bloggers and independent filmmakers, Rhonda and Sharee Washington, were on their way back from a job in China, they met a television producer.
"She was on her way back to DC; we were trying to get back to Columbia."
According to the twins, the TV executive always takes direct flights when traveling. On that particular day, however, she had a layover in the same place as the twins.
"So the fact that she had a layover was divine intervention; otherwise, our paths would not have crossed," said Sharee Washington.
The twins shared about their blog spot called Take a Leap, where they feature faith-based stories, highlighting African Americans who leave this country and visit or live in a different country.
"During the 20-minute layover she saw one of our short films and asked us what we were doing February 24th," said Sharee Washington. "She didn't tell us what the event was."
The event, only the single most anticipated night in Hollywood, was the Oscars.
Within a few days, the twins say there spot on the red carpet and credentials were in place. They will film, interview and blog about the celebrities and everything else Oscar. Owing everything to God, Rhonda and Sharee believe their mantra paved the way for this experience.
"Preparation and opportunity brings success."
Rhonda flew out this afternoon. Sharee departs tomorrow. They will chronicle their journey via their blog, Facebook and twitter. The Oscars airs this Sunday night at 7pm on ABC Columbia.
